Pi Phi hosts third annual Wing Ching Ching event on March 8

Next Wednesday, March 8, Pi Beta Phi will host its annual Wing Ching Ching event.  The event will begin at 6pm, and will take place in the ballroom of the Findlay Student Center.

This is the third year that the Pi Phi sorority has hosted a Wing Ching Ching event on Drury’s campus.  The event will feature chicken wings provided by a number of Springfield restaurants.  In addition, student organizations can pay $15 to enter a side dish competition; the quality of the side dishes will be evaluated by participants at the event.

Wing Ching Ching is a charitable event designed to support Pi Phi’s mission of combatting functional illiteracy.  “All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Pi Beta Phi Literacy Fund,” remarked Madison Clark, the Pi Phi member who organized the event.  The Literacy Fund provides partnerships and grants through its Read > Lead > Achieve initiative, a philanthropic effort by the Pi Beta Phi national organization to advance literacy and provide books to children in poverty.  Although the Literacy Fund is a national organization, Wing Ching Ching will also have a positive impact closer to home.  “The Literacy Fund not only helps national initiatives of Read > Lead > Achieve, but it also comes back locally to impact Boyd Elementary, where we help at book club every week,” explained Clark.  “We are really excited about this event because it directly benefits literacy initiatives that we get to see at work.”

Students interested in the event will be able to purchase tickets in front of the FSC for $5 during the week leading up to March 8, or for $7 at the door.  Said Clark, “We have been working really hard to make this event successful and we would love to have everyone come out and eat wings with us!”
