The Queen City Studios’ Grand Opening and Celebration of the Arts will be held Friday, March 3rd at Queen City Studios in downtown Springfield. The opening event coincides with the monthly First Friday Art Walk and will showcase work and performances by many local artists, including former students of the studio’s owner. William “Billy” Gowers will be hosting this event at the business’ location on Walnut Street from 6 to 11 p.m. It is free to the public.

“We are taking the opportunity to have people come down and meet local authors, artists and performers,” said Gowers’ brother, Gary. Gary is an photographer and author whose work will be on display and for sale at the event.

The business itself will offer private voice, piano and music theory lessons taught by Billy Gowers and other instructors. The studio also houses a fully-equipped recording studio. The brothers hope to sponsor additional artistic endeavors as the business grows. “In the future we’re hoping to get involved in talent promotions: vocalists, musicians and authors,” said Gary Gowers.

Both brothers are well-rounded in the arts; Billy and Gary Gowers are from the St. Louis area and moved to Springfield to attend Soutwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State). There, Gary received his BSE in Vocal Music Education and MM in Choral Conducting.

He has had experience teaching choir and vocal music in public and private schools for 18 years. By opening up Queen City Studios to the public, he hopes to focus more on the individual performer.

Gary Gowers graduated from the University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He has travelled to many places around the world and written multiple textbooks and recently, one work of fiction titled “Fifth Floor Frances.”
